Litecoin Technology Overview
Litecoin was created in October 2011 by former Google engineer Charlie Lee as the "silver to Bitcoin's gold." Using the Scrypt hashing algorithm (instead of Bitcoin's SHA-256), Litecoin was designed for faster transaction confirmation (2.5-minute blocks vs Bitcoin's 10 minutes) and initially favored consumer GPU mining over ASICs. Litecoin has often served as a testbed for Bitcoin improvements: SegWit and Lightning Network were deployed on Litecoin first. The MWEB (MimbleWimble Extension Blocks) upgrade in 2022 added optional privacy features.
