Bullish Engulfing
A rising candle whose body completely covers the body of the previous falling candle.
One of the few candlestick patterns whose definition is unambiguous — the second body either contains the first or it does not — which makes it one of the few that different detectors agree about. Read as a decisive change of hands within a single period.
What a bullish engulfing has actually done
Every occurrence we hold, scored on whether price moved more than 0.5% in the pattern’s own direction within three candles.
| Timeframe | Occurrences | Reached target | Baseline | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1H · crypto | 4,654 | 36.8% | 22.3% | +14.5pp |
| 4H · crypto | 4,412 | 40.5% | 33.6% | +6.9pp |
| 1D · crypto | 2,743 | 50.6% | 39.4% | +11.3pp |
Baseline is the share of ordinary candles that passed the same test over the same period, same timeframe and same direction. A rate at or below it means the shape added nothing. Edge is the difference between the two. This is a record of what followed, not a forecast.
