Long-Legged Doji
A doji with long wicks on both sides, so the period covered a wide range and still finished where it began.
The widest expression of indecision in the family — a large range that resolved into nothing. Because the defining feature is range rather than direction, it is the doji most likely to precede a large move in either direction, and the one whose "success rate" under a stays-flat test is hardest to read without the baseline beside it.
What a long-legged doji has actually done
Every occurrence we hold, scored on whether price moved more than 0.5% in the pattern’s own direction within three candles.
| Timeframe | Occurrences | Reached target | Baseline | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1H · crypto | 10,064 | 38.8% | 55.1% | -16.3pp |
| 4H · crypto | 5,874 | 25.6% | 29.0% | -3.4pp |
| 1D · crypto | 3,053 | 13.9% | 12.0% | +1.9pp |
| 1D · forex | 102 | 63.7% | 12.0% | +51.7pp |
Baseline is the share of ordinary candles that passed the same test over the same period, same timeframe and same direction. A rate at or below it means the shape added nothing. Edge is the difference between the two. This is a record of what followed, not a forecast.
