Moving Average
The average price over a fixed number of recent periods, redrawn each period. It smooths short-term noise to make the underlying direction easier to read.
A moving average is always late — it is an average of the past, so it turns after price does. That lag is the point, not a defect, but it means a moving average cannot call a top or a bottom, only confirm that one has already happened.
