Timeout
A backtested trade that reached neither its target nor its stop before its allotted time expired, and was closed at the market price when it did.
Without a deadline a target is eventually reached by almost anything, because price wanders. A pattern allowed to wait indefinitely will therefore report a success rate approaching certainty, which is a statement about patience rather than about the pattern. Every trade measured here expires after three times the pattern's own length, and the share that expired is published alongside the wins and losses — a high timeout rate means the pattern mostly does nothing, which is a finding rather than a gap.
