R-Multiple
The result of a trade measured in units of the risk it took. Losing exactly the planned amount is −1R; making twice it is +2R.
Expressing results in R rather than in currency makes trades of different sizes comparable and makes a strategy's record independent of how much was staked. It is also the figure that exposes a pattern with a high hit rate and a poor plan: reaching a very close target most of the time can still produce a negative median R, because the occasional full stop-out outweighs many small gains. The median R published on this site is measured across every occurrence — wins, losses and timeouts — and after trading costs.
