Tweezer Top
Two adjacent candles whose highs are at almost the same price, the first rising and the second falling.
A level touched twice in immediate succession and rejected both times. It is the double top compressed into two periods, and it shares that pattern's weakness — two highs at a similar price are common — and its strength, which is that the level is explicit and can be tested.
What a tweezer top has actually done
Every occurrence we hold, scored on whether price moved more than 0.5% in the pattern’s own direction within three candles.
| Timeframe | Occurrences | Reached target | Baseline | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1H · crypto | 15,079 | 35.0% | 22.7% | +12.4pp |
| 4H · crypto | 6,217 | 36.2% | 37.4% | -1.2pp |
| 1D · crypto | 1,740 | 47.5% | 48.6% | -1.1pp |
| 1D · forex | 42 | 11.9% | 48.6% | -36.7pp |
Baseline is the share of ordinary candles that passed the same test over the same period, same timeframe and same direction. A rate at or below it means the shape added nothing. Edge is the difference between the two. This is a record of what followed, not a forecast.
